If you had to choose a genre to write in what would it be?

Urban Mythicalism. I am enchanted by the notion that the gods and goddesses still live amongst us, attempting to assist humankind. I am fascinated by ancient myths and legends and in uncovering partial truths which might then be transported into our modern existence. The mystery of life’s circle, or energetics and the world screaming in to doomsday; set amongst the coffee cups and pavements of an urban setting brings a smile to my face.

Would you rather have critical acclaim, or commercial success?

It would be foolish to jump on one or the others bandwagon, deeming any the ‘right’ one.

I have read some rubbish Pulitzer winners and been entranced by commercially successful, yet very ordinary genre novels. In all things, I come back to what the initial outcome is for the event or project at hand.

Although the worldwide peer group acclaim would be delightful; I have never sought the limelight or recognition. If I could claim to influence the thinking of others, to present different perspectives and opportunities; then that would be all the acclaim I would want. I’d be mad to say I wouldn’t accept the lashings of money which came with commercial success either.

Short answer – both thanks!

Why do you write?

Writing connects me to thoughts, people and events. More than anything I feel I am a conduit for characters to tell their story. I am compelled to write every day, to share my thoughts and reactions to the things around me and to share the stories I am gifted.

Which book do you wish YOU had written?

1984. George Orwell was a visionary and unfortunately stuck in the time he lived. Its message is as strong – if not more so – now as it was when he wrote it. Sadly this book has been ditched to teenagers who ignore its dire warnings.

What do you hope to achieve in the project?

Short stories have long waned in popularity. Once the jump start into many writers careers, very few publishing companies accept or print short stories. I want to support the commercial ideal Jodi and Paul have instigated. I would hope that this paves the way for emerging writers to showcase their work in a variety of ways and to re-educate the public on the merits of short story reading. It wouldn’t hurt too, if I gained some commercial recognition!
